Painting New Directions: Studio Update

Painting in the Studio

These days the studio is heavily scented with linseed oil and mineral spirits (which are unscented, but they still smell delightful!).  Wet paint is flying, and "Watch Out!"- if you get too close it will land on you, or you will unsuspectingly bump into some!

I am busily working on a new collection of paintings!  Unlike what you have seen so far, these have hand-constructed stretchers, hand-pulled canvas, and hand-painted gesso primer. They feature a much more abstract subject matter than the paintings I have created in the last several years. Some are completely abstract, focusing on color and shape, and some have recognizable imagery that I have abstracted.  Creating these types of paintings is totally my thing, and, though I am working long, hard hours, I am enjoying the process immensely.

These paintings are all much bigger than the sizes I have been painting for the last several years.  They range in size from 18 inches square, to 30 inches square (not all of the pieces are square, those just happened to be my smallest and largest sizes).  It has been a challenge and a joy to take the next step in painting.  I have completely thrown myself into it, and have focused on spending as much time in my studio as possible.

I have a wonderful opportunity to display my work at a local business, and I will share more about that once the paintings have been installed.  All of the pieces will be available for sale locally, as well as here on the Elysian Studios site.  The first three paintings have been completed and are drying, waiting for signatures and photography.  I can't wait to share them with you soon!
